CLEANUP is a quick utility to search a disk's file tree and identify those
tiny little mistake files of 0, 1, or 2 bytes that most of us have littered
around. Each file found may be erased at your option.
Did you realize that those 1 and 2 byte files are really taking up a minimum
of two clusters, usually 2048 bytes, and perhaps up to eight clusters if
you're using an early DOS?
CLEANUP looks at everything: Hidden, ReadOnly, and System directories and
files. Directories and files with those attributes will be identified as
such. Use caution in erasing files you do not recognize. They may be part
of a copy protection or validation scheme.
Just run CLEANUP from the DOS prompt, optionally designating the drive to
search:
C>cleanup d:
If you're fastidious enough that you want to run CLEANUP from AUTOEXEC.BAT
regularly, put a '/g' switch as a second command line parameter. That tells
the program to go on without waiting for a key press at completion. You
still will be prompted for any erasures.
cleanup c: /g
